Hydric Soils in the Lowcountry

Hydric soils form in saturated conditions, including flooding and/or ponding, where the presence of water is evident within the upper 12 inches of the soil profile. Essentially, the soil is saturated long enough for anaerobic conditions to form. Many of the factors that contribute to the presence of hydric soils also influence the presence of wetland hydrology and vegetation.
