Middleton Place

Sabine & Waters, Inc. has been providing a variety of environmental and forest management services to Middleton Place in Dorchester County, South Carolina for over 20 years.

Middleton Place was the home of Henry Middleton, President of the First Continental Congress, and his son Arthur, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Charles Duell continues to maintain this National Historic Landmark. With America’s oldest landscape gardens, the Middleton Place House and stable yards are situated on 6,500 acres of lowcountry forestland.

Sabine & Waters has mapped the soil types, wetlands, roads, trails, gardens, timber types and topography using an Arc Info geographic information system. This information is used to plan future development and management of the site.

Recent projects include water budget planning for the rice fields, wetland and endangered species surveys for a planned ecotourism facility, design and construction management of over 155 acres of lake, prescription for prescribed burning, pond vegetation control, pond stocking, stream restoration, longleaf pine restoration and kayak trail locations
